राजस्थान रॉयल्स के सहायक कोच सायरज बहुतुल ने बताया कि कैसे 14 वर्षीय प्रतिभा वैभव सूर्यवंशी को लखनऊ सुपर दिग्गजों के खिलाफ पक्ष के संघर्ष के दौरान अपनी शुरुआत करना टीम और खिलाड़ी दोनों के लिए महत्वपूर्ण था। जबकि सूर्यवंशी ने अपने पहले आईपीएल आउटिंग में अपनी बल्लेबाजी की प्रतिभा के साथ क्रिकेट की दुनिया को प्रभावित किया, बहुतुले ने कहा कि किशोरी ने पहले से ही अपनी पहली टोपी अर्जित करने के लिए प्रतिभा की पर्याप्त झलक दिखाई थी।
हफ्तों के हॉप्स के बाद से आरआर ने उन्हें सबसे कम उम्र के आईपीएल खिलाड़ी के रूप में रोपित किया, 14 वर्षीय ने आखिरकार कैश-रिच लीग का अपना पहला स्वाद प्राप्त किया, 20 गेंदों पर 34 रन बनाए। उनकी दस्तक भी शामिल थी एक पहली गेंद छह जिसने जयपुर को एक उन्माद में भेजा। मैच के बाद की प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में बोलते हुए, बहुतुल ने कहा कि टीम ने सूर्यवंशी की शुरुआत नहीं की थी और इस बात से संतुष्ट थे कि उन्होंने एलएसजी के खिलाफ दबाव को कैसे संभाला।
“जब अवसर आया तो उसे मौका (डेब्यू) देना महत्वपूर्ण था। वह नेट्स में अच्छी तरह से बल्लेबाजी कर रहा था, उसकी प्रीप[eration was good, and obviously we missed Sanju. He made good use of the opportyunity,” Bahutule said.
“I just feel he’s a great kid with a really good head on his shoulders. I think he’s got a game that’s almost 360 degrees. He’s courageous and brave—you could see that in his approach. Even at that age, he’s very dominating. He wants to play his shots and doesn’t really worry about who he’s facing. His theory is simple: watch the ball and hit the ball,” Bahutule said.
RR head coach Rahul Dravid had previously mentioned that the team would not introduce Suryavanshi to the big stage prematurely. However, the teenager got his chance after skipper Sanju Samson picked up an injury during the clash against Delhi Capitals and was ultimately retired hurt.
With a lot of anticipation around him, Suryavanshi opened the innings for RR alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in their 181-run chase. The pair gave RR a solid start with an 85-run partnership, before Suryavanshi was stumped by Rishabh Pant off Aiden Markram’s delivery for 34.
Despite the bright start, his short yet impactful innings couldn’t take RR over the line, as their middle order faltered and the team fell two runs short in what could have been a comfortable chase on Saturday in Jaipur.
